Warming End-of-Winter Smoothie

A delicious and grounding start to your day,

this smoothie helps you start out with micro-nutirents to nourish and support your mind and body all day long. It’s an easy breakfast drink that gives you a fast start; add a small glass to your regular breakfast, or drink more for a filling, light meal. Bonus: when you add in good stuff in the early am, you’re more likely to make better food choices all day long.

The sun is coming up earlier now, but here in the northeast mornings are still COLD, so this version is made with warm water, winter citrus and fresh ginger.

Feel free to vary the ingredients, depending on what you have on hand.

Place in a blender:

  • 2 large handfuls of spinach

  • 2 peeled oranges

  • 1 banana

  • a quater inch of grated peeled ginger

  • half of a large avocado, or all of a small one

  • 2 dates

  • 1 half tsp. spirulina powder

  • a very small handful of dried dulse flakes (if you don’t have this don’t fret, skip it.)

  • Warm water—about a cup and a half

Blend for a few minutes until everything is smooth. Serves 2 for breakfast, any leftovers keep well overnight in the fridge.

Enjoy! Pretty much everyone finds this version of a smoothie tasty, including my bacon and eggs loving husband.
