Tiny Changes Remarkable Results
Dear Friends,
Most of us know what we should do to lead a healthier more fulfilling life. And yet we aren't able to act upon that knowledge. In my work I help people create micro-habits, the small steps that help a client move from knowing what to do, to actually doing it. And, as you can see from this illustration, a small step may be the ONLY way to get on the ladder to meet your goal.
What most of us don't truly understand is that small steps are totally magic; we continually try to hit goals that are unrealistic or too big. Who among us hasn't done that, sometimes repeatedly? About 50% of us are unable to keep New Year's Resolutions.
Behavioral Science holds that it's WAY better to start small. One small win begins to build momentum to create even more wins and good habits. And that's really inspiring for you, and everyone around you.
BJ Fogg, the Director of the Behavior Design Lab at Stanford, says when creating new habits it's best to make your small step as tiny as possible. You can use these micro-steps for anything: to build physical health, start a meditation practice, learn a new language, bring more fun into your life, wake up refreshed, or eat more vegetables. It's freeing and exciting to learn how to actually hit your goals, without turning your life upside down, or changing everything about yourself!
What's the smallest step you could take toward a goal today? Try a step that's ridiculously easy, because it's totally true that tiny changes lead to remarkable results.
